Kidus’s Story.

Our website states: “We strive to empower and build character in students through the love of Jesus Christ while caring for their basic needs and educating them so one day they can positively impact their community.”

“One Day” is happening in our very midst!

Our staff sent us the following story of one of our current students, Kidus and we were absolutely beaming with pride.

It is our firm belief that serving others gives us purpose. This is how you change a village. God is so good.

This email is meant to let you know about one of our students!

One of the core values as stated in OA is human dignity. This is manifested not only by the OA staff but also by our students. Kidus  was serving humanity during the summer time. He has participated in constructing and painting houses for the elderly, voluntary traffic police, collecting funds from volunteers and distributing it to the needy ones in terms of cash and items for the New Year. As stated by Kidus, the experience was not something he could express in words (the emotional challenges of seeing 10 or more families in a shabby house, the communities’ social support system and the blessings he got from the elderly after the construction of the houses).

I asked him why he participated in the volunteer activity and he said “I need to impact my communities with what I have on hand; I need to leave my legacy in the community and need to get the blessing from the elderly. The experience of being a volunteer motivated me to plan in the future and invest more of my time and energy.’’

We have witnessed that giving back to the community by our children has already started. They have started thinking beyond their own needs. It is the beginning of seeing the seeds brought up as it was planted by OA’s vision. Praise to God! Here I have attached photos of Kidus while he was participating in the activities mentioned above.
